bettes are agressive i also had one killed one of my fish right before my eyes!

1. Treating your tank destroys all the beneficial bacteria, your tank is spiking in ammonia and nitrites, and has the increased bio-load of new fish.

2. Angelfish pick on all other fish.

3. Changing the filter also removes a large amount of the beneficial bacteria

4. You crab needs to breathe air. Give him a hard plastic plant or a ladder of some type to get to the surface.

i allways keep an extra tank hady jusy incase somethin like that happens . you may need to separate the platies from the others. also sometimes the fish you buy may allready have a disease, or they could have been shocked when put into your tank. make sure you buy from a good retailer. big als if you havwe one close to you
First(from experience) never mix Betta with other fish because they love to fight and mostly win unless they are facing bigger and stronger fish. i sorta feel bad for you because you got a 30 gal tank and may have 1 fish in it. My advice is to get a three gal tank and keep the Betta in it and maby get more fish in the 30 gal.
Best way to tell if a fish died in a fight is to check out its fins. Do they have chunks missing or are they frayed? You'd probably see some open wounds too.

If this isn't the case, I'd get a test kit and check your ph, nitrate, and ammonia levels.
