Why do fish eat gravel and then throw it2007-11-24 23:43:09
Hi,
I have a goldfish aquarium and i often see that goldfish sucks the gravel in their mouth and then throw it. Why do they do this ?
Thanks.
Answers:They do it to pick little bits of food off it, and to make sure its not actually food (or a snail etc) that they can eat and missed. Mine do it all the time, sometimes they get bits stuck lol!
Too pass time.
It's like a play object to them. For instance, it's a ball to them. Don't worry about it unless you see your goldfish EATING gravel.
to get the old food on the bottom, they suck in the rocks collect the food on it,then the old food under it.
they are eating the algea off the bottom
maybee there building there city the way they want it or there sifting the fecal matter for bits of food ask them then watch there lips move and try to figure out what they say cause all the animals talk
It helps them digest.
cause they are trying to play nemo in finding nemo they are trying to throw the rocks in the filter so the tank gets dirty the you put them in a plastic bag then they roll to the nearest pond or river
just looking for some food in the gravel
