Why does my Betta fishs bowl get cloudy so soon2007-11-24 23:43:56

I recently purchased a male Betta fish and I put it in a fish bowl with gem stones. Not too long after I put it in the bowl the water became cloudy. The only stuff that is put in the water is the fish food and the drops which make the water safe for the fish. Should I change the water in the fish bowl every other day?

Answers:

Waste, for them doing their thing feeding and chlorinated water, causing an ammonia bloom. Bettas breath air so they can take it, but they may get fin rot, be careful and clean out the bowl, make sure you use, you use water left out for a day or ,change it and use just a squirt, of stress coat, to much can cause it to become cloudy as well also. Do not over feed them, it's also a reason. Bettas don't know when to stop eating, so it ups to us to know for them. 3 pellets a day will do and your water will stay cleaner.

if you can avoid changin the water then don't follwoing these simple rules will help you not have to do so.

Only do 1/2 water change once a week. Try switching to a floating pellet food, and only give him 3-4 pellets every other day. Also, make sure you allow the water to sit for about a day before you put it in his bowl.

For mine, it is the food i give it. I have to be real careful on the amount. Too much clouds it up and i have to change the water. They are small and really don't need that much food. Just a few pellets is enough.

i would make sure the bowl and rocks are totally clean of any crusty stuff, and dont feed him a whole lot at once, especially since fish dont know when to stop eating. they'll keep going as long as they see food. ive had 2 betas so far and i never had to put any kind of water drops in it to keep it safe, and it never got cloudy, but that doesnt mean it will be the same for you.

you might be feeding him to much. The type of food also will cloud the water. You can suck out water from a turkey baster as to not stress your fish out every time you do a change.

could be you have hard water, also when cleaning the bowl
