Why does my Oscar yawn so much is he tired or is it a sign of something else2007-11-24 23:43:16Answers:
Mine did that too, just something they do I guess. Good diet you got him on, 'cept for the feeders :)
Assuming you are talking about a fish.. he may be re alligning his jaw muscles like a snake does after eating a large meal. Stretching his mouth.
What are you feeding it?
Is Oscar a mammal? Yawning is body language for boredom (in humans at least) and yawning is a way to get oxygen in the body quickly if you are breathing slow, light breaths, for example.
People yawn for oxygen, maybe that is what Oscar is trying to get.
My Oscars used to always do this. I think it is some kind of display to attract a mate or show that they are tough.
Its kind of cool. I loved my Oscars, they had a lot of personality.

I have had this same phenomenon happen with my Tiger Muskies. All invertebrates will yawn from time to time. Just keep your eyes on his gills to make sure he doesn't have some sort of infection going on in there, and you will be fine.
People and fish are same when it comes to yawning. The thing that causes yawning is the lack of Oxygen I would add some air filters and air pump so that this can be resolved. This is such an easy fix I wish they were all that easy.
