Why does my betta attack the plastic fish2007-11-24 23:43:55

I have an orange, plastic goldfish-like fish in my betta's bowl. Should I take the plastic fish out? Is it stressing the betta?

Answers:

Bettas will react to a variety of things including other fish (even fake ones, food, sudden movement and certain colors. Try using a differently colored fish to see if there is a change in attitude. The flaring won't cause a problem unless he is doing so constantly. Make sure that there is nothing sharp on the fake fish or he may tear a fin which can easily get infected.

If he can't calm down, yes it may be stressing him. Take it out.
Yes, male betteas will mistake bright colors for another male betta and will flare up and try to hurt it. Take it out.
BETTA fish are doing that because they want to claim the tank to themselves. If you don't know your not suppose to put BETTA fish with any other fish, including life like toys.
"Bettas" are usually called "Chinese Fighting Fish", so the betta may mistake the plastic fish for another betta fish (they kill each other if in the same bowl), so take the plastic fish out.
erm I think you should as yer pet goldfish keeps attacking the plastic goldfish..maybe he felt unsave with a new goldfish in the bowl.
bettas are territorial.
