Why does my goldfish hug the corners of the tank2007-11-24 23:43:14

It is 80 degrees in their tank.

Answers:

Your fish is suffocating! The warmer the water, the less oxygen is in it. Heat drives out O2. Goldfish are coldwater fish and need temps in the range of 60-65 degrees. Also, goldfish need about 2-3 gallons of water per one inch of fish (not counting the tails).

Shut off the heater and get an air pump to get some air in there. A quick fix is to get a clean one gallon milk jug and fill it about three quarters full of water from the goldfish tank. Cap it and shake it really hard for about 20-30 seconds. Pour it back in the tank and repeat until you have oxygenated all the water in the tank. That will save you fish for now until you get an air pump and filter. I saved 12 tanks of tropical fish by doing this repeatedly during a 26 hour power outage. Boy were my arms tired..;o(

Be sure to do your regular (weekly) partial (25-30%) water changes so the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates don't reach toxic levels. That could also be part of the problem. The warmer the water, the more toxic those chemicals become.

They just sometimes like to hide in corners! Its part of their style!
cuz he sleeps there thats why
Because your tank is depressed.
Cause it's too damn hot. Goldfish are COLD WATER FISH. You're cooking it. It needs to NOT have a heater on it and be around 65-70 degrees!
