Why is my Beta female loosing her color2007-11-24 23:43:21

We have had her for about two months. She was a deep red, and in the past few days she's been fading rapidly.

She seems to eat well enough. .

Could she be dying?

I've heard not enough light in the room can cause this. Is that true?

female batas are known for losing and gaining color. if she does not gain her color back within a week, i would change her food. many foods do not have the nutrients betas need to mantain color. either that or she is becoming ill and wioll die soon. im sorry

I'm not sure you might want to speak with a pet shop owner or the place that you bought her. I have a beta fish too. Mine is purple and red I got it two years ago. She seems to be staying strong! Well, I do not think that is true. It sounds like a fib. I would call a doctor, maybe it's nothing serious. Maybe you should change her water, buy a new kind of food, or just make sure the room is room tempurature!

female beta sometime loosing color probably coz the water n food. but about the light as i know that more darker is much more make a bright color for beta ( esp.male) coz big breeder in thailand plant the bowl in the backyard for great color just like dragon fish.

if you got it from the petstore, it could be old. It might be aging, that it's losing its color. If not, you can try to make her water better for her, using conditioner, pH setter, and setting the right temperature. Give her enough space to swim around, feed her well (if you want, the color enhancing betta pellets), and clean her water not too often but often.
