Why is my Fish tank Leaking this is the 2nd time it happened2007-11-24 23:44:00

I had a 29G fish tank which lasted 2 years then last year in decemember it start leaking, i bought same tank again now after 7 month it is leaking. So i got it replaced. I don't want this to happen again what can i do to prevent this? I bought a tube of fish tank sealing to double seal the sealing in my tank. any sugesstions?

Your tank isn't sitting level. Buy a level and check your stand. The stand itself may not be exactly flat and it can create pressure points on the tank. When you place it down, put a sheet of Styrofoam under it. It will help avoid these pressure points.

Its gotta be supported fully square on the base or it will flex from the weight and leak.Make sure there are no high and low spots on the stand.

Try a different brand of tank next time. I've never had one leak before, but I think using that clear stuff to double seal the seams is a good idea. They have seamless tanks now too, they're molded.

i new a guy had this problem he had a pacu that was way to big for the tank and it kept crashin in to the sides and caused his tanks to leak in a 29 and a 50 gal.

Maybe your water level is too high? I noticed that when the water in my tanks was above the black plastic it leaked from the plastic. So maybe try keeping the water level below that.

You should not have leaking problems. Buy a different brand. Why seal it your self when it should'nt do it any how.

You might try getting a 1/2 inch foam board from a home improvement store and cut that to fit the top of the stand. Then sit the tank on it. That should make sure the tank isn't stressed from the way it's sitting.

Adding extra sealant won't do any good because it won't stick to the existing sealant.
