Why is my female guppy twisting her body to the side2007-11-24 23:43:59

I think my guppy is pregnant because it has dark gravid spots on her sides, and she's getting bigger every minute. She is bending her body sideways, which is weird. Could it be because she's trying to push out babies, or what? Also, she is staying near the surface. Could it be stress, because I'm holding her and a small male guppy in a small 2.5 gal minibow. She's bending like her fin and the meat before the skin sideways. Anyone ever had experience with this? Please help

It's too late to remove either of the parents - any stress at this point will cause the mother to abort any fry left inside her. The best thing you can do right now is leave the room and shut the lights off. Check her in the morning to make sure she's still ok, and see if you have any fry left.

you need to seperate them for some reason, the female will not release her eggs until the male is not around.. she will hold them in until she kills herself.. seperate them, and then leave her be.. it will take a few days for her to adjust, but move him. it would be too much stress on her..

you need to take her out of the tank with the male he will kill all her babies and when she has them she needs to be taken out she will eat them she is proble stressed they need to be in a quiet mellow place where they can birth in peace the spots can be a sickness called ick there is meds for it and you put it in the water

It could be both the start of labor or stress . I have watched one of my females arching her back up to two days before having her fry. I figured the fry's extra activity and/or contractions were making her uncomfortable. Check to see if she has a more boxed up appearance around her anus rather then a more rounded line from her stomach to tail. To be on the safe side, I would also suggest having the water tested at your local pet store, or doing a few small water changes.
