Why is my fish tank overflow making a flushing sound
My overflow sounds like a toliet flushing.
Answers:i have a 90 gal. tank that hade the same problem so this is some of the things that I did. put some foam that the water will go though where the water drops to the hole and change it or clean it 1-2 times a week so it won't back up. this sure end the sound. if not goto your pet store and ask for bio-ball that break up the fish poo and other things, put them in the same place over the hole where the water goes. if that does not work try putting in a slower pump so the water moves slower.. you might have to a few of the things to fix it.. if these don't work ask some one at your pet store and see what they say.

or is their a thin layer of algae on it(clean it off with an old toothbrush)
Did you mistakenly put the fish in the toilet by mistake? Don't flush until you "fish" them out.

How high is the water? What kind of filtration do you have on it? How big is the tank?
My tank makes a lot of noise when the water level is not high enough. According to manufacturer instructions, the water level should be about 1 1/2 inch from the rim for my 25-gal tank.
they make a sponge that's goes in the overflow box.. its real coarse so it won't stop up.. it is round and goes over the drain hole.
The water in your tank may not be at the correct level or be too hard or too soft.
