My gold fish, Regina, is turnig silver. Why?

I had a goldfish too, he used to be golg when he was young, and then about 3 years later, he turned all white,unfortunatly he died in may,this year.We came back home from Corpus Christi one day and found him practically bent in half. He couldnt even swim right. :^(
