Why is my goldfish turning brown2007-11-24 23:44:01

It use to be pure orange, but now its turning brown. Why is this?

Goldfish often will change color as they mature. If there are no other signs of disease (i.e., lack of appetite, swimming erratically, loosing balance in the water, lesions, white growths or fuzzy spots, etc.) then it's most likely that the fish is simply maturing, and naturally changing color. This is completely normal. I would just keep an eye on him for any other outward signs that something is wrong and go from there.

I heard that goldfish tend to do this when they get "irritated" or "stressed" which causes them to lose their immunity. The stress/irritation can come from being moved around too frequently, lack of variety in diet, a crowded fish tank, or using untreated water or water that is the incorrect temperature. Gold fish can change colors up to ten (Or maybe twelve, I forgot) times in their lives. My goldfish used to be orange, but now she's white. Nothing serious. I hope.
