Will differnet types of fish mate2007-11-24 23:44:13

I have a 5 gallon aquarium with 1 neon tetra, 1 swordtail, and 1 female molly. The molly just had babies and I know that molly fish are very fertile. Will any of my other fish mate with that molly if they are male fish?

If something is cannot successfully mate, it cannot be considered the same species. The definition of species is such:

Biology. the major subdivision of a genus or subgenus, regarded as the basic category of biological classification, composed of related individuals that resemble one another, are able to breed among themselves, but are not able to breed with members of another species.

So if a fish really wanted to, I'm sure it can successfully mate since it is the same species and fits the definition. Hope that helps.

NO..the only species of fish that will do this is gold fish, fancy gold fish, and Koi fish.

The red parrot fish is a tropical fish and is called the man made fish becasue it was just discovered and will cross mate with other tropical fish of it's size.
