Will the Siamese fighting fish eventually settle2007-11-24 23:44:29

I have bought a siamese fighting fish two days ago and he flares his gills at my dwarf gourmis. Is he only trying to establish himself and will eventually settle or is this worrying behaviour?

I have had many Betta's in my life and some I have put in the community tank (one at a time), the ones that are in their own home do the best. Each Betta had his own way of seeing things ( the ones in the tanks) some were aggressive and some were picked on by other fish because of their long fins.

I think you should give him his own place or you could hang him in a box inside your tank (like a fish nursery) if you wanted, just be sure he can't get out and no one can get in,also he needs to be able to reach the surface so he can breath.Good luck.

Maybe. The Siamese Fighting Fish or Beta is a territorial animal. The male is responsible for raising the eggs and will posture and fight anything is sees as a threat. Another Beta is the usual target. Your fish might settle down if your other fish is smaller or does not look anything like the Beta. I kept mine with a beautiful angelfish. Make sure your tank is large enough for each fish to have its own space and give each its own sheltered area.

You cant put your fighters with other fish. Unless its a really big tank where he's got an area large enough to call it his territory alone.
