help i need some colourful fish / fresh water / for a 20 gallon tank2007-11-24 23:32:32

I have a betta in his own tank but now I have a 20gallon tank and I want to put some fish in there that won't kill each other I would really like to get bala sharks ?

You're keeping the betta seperate? Probably good idea, but depends on the fish some will get along with everyone, and others won't.

No go on the bala sharks, they get up to almost 12", your tank is too small.

I'm guessing you're going with a community tank? How about some guppies(males), mollies, platies, swordtails, killies, tetras, rasboras, lots of colorful fish. Just be sure to cycle your tank before getting the fish. Here's some forums do a search on fishless cycling, and cycling a fish tank. I also wouldn't recommended getting a common pleco(algae eater), they get too big as well. Could try a bristlenose or a rubber lip pleco to help with the algae.

i feel strongly that neon tetras are the best.

they are a glowing bright red and blue.

the more of them you have, the brighter they shine, and they swim together.

Get slow moving fish or fish smaller than itself. Believe it or not a betta can get bullied too.

Fast moving fish, like the bala sharks will eat everything up before the betta will.
