how long does it take a fancy tailed guppy to have her babies from the day she is pregnent?will my floating breeder trap work with the V thing in it?

Answers:

Female guppies will give birth every 21-35 days, depending on water temperature and conditions. They can drop (have babies) up to six times from a single sexual encounter, and you can count on 20-50 babies from every drop.

Your breeder will work fine - just make sure you don't put the mother in there until a couple days before she's due to drop. You'll notice her gravid spot turn dark black to a red color, she'll start swimming up and down the sides of the tank, and she might not eat within a day or two before she gives birth.

She will take between 8-12 hours to expel all of the babies. You will need to remove the mother after she's done birthing to prevent her from eating any of the babies.

You'll need to feed the babies about every 4 hours. You can try specialized fry food (Hikari makes a great fry food called First Bites), or you can simply crush the flakes you use for your adult guppies to a fine dust (place them in a baggie and crush 'em). You could also hard-boil an egg, and place the yolk in a brand new spray bottle with tank water. Shake the bottle until the egg is broken apart, and spritz a fine layer on the top of the water every couple of hours.
