i need to know if there is a meat based freshwater fish food2007-11-24 23:35:44

if so, it need to be suitable for zebra danioes, upside down catfish and an omnivous type bottom feeder (cannot remember the name). My bottom feeder ate one of my danioes because he is maturing, but i don't want to loose anymore of my danioes.

almost all fish foods have some meat in them. there are special flakes, pellets, and wafers made just for bottomfeeders. for more meaty foods check out foods for carnivore fish such as bettas, cichlids, etc. fish will usually eat other fish if they get a chance, 1 fish eating another is like us eating a candy bar, not really healthy but some times it just sounds good.

Most fish food is made with fish meal, which is a form of meat. Get rid of the bottom feeder because he will never stop eating the danios once he has a taste for them.

You may keep losing the fish to your bottom feeder just because it will eat them regardless if they are small enough.

But for meat based foods you can try freeze dried or frozen blood worms, they will love it. There are also plenty of flake foods made from meat and vegetables for omnivores.

Honestly you need to remove the bottom feeder. Once they start eating they general don't stop. You can try feeding him sinking pellets. Most fish stores sell them for bottom feeders. You can also try asking if your fish store will let you trade in the fish.

Try the frozen food blocks they have at pet stores - I get the turtle ones but there are fish ones too. Just let it thaw for a couple of hours in a little container in the refrigerator then put it in the tank, if you want you could cut it up a little so its easier for them to eat but they'll most likely enjoy pulling it apart.
