is a 23 watt flourescent light good for a 5 gallon tank
ive been using a 15 watt incandecent light for awhile now. i wanted a fluroscent light so i just found a 23 watt one around the house and screwed it onto my aquarium. is 23 watts too strong or is it okay?
Answers:The thing about lights for tanks is that it's not just the light, but the complete spectrum that's needed, if you have live plants. I have tons of lights that still light up, but the spectrum has gone and so, they don't do the plants any good. So, keep an eye on things and see how it goes. Also keep an eye on the amount of algae you get. When my plants start looking wilted or yellowed, I get new bulbs. I also give them fertilizer too. But, that's off topic, sorry.
absalutely not. i have a 25 watt flourescent blue neon light in my 5 gallon fish tank. the only difference is the 23 is gonna get hot in about 2 minutes, so you cant keep it on very long, because if you leave it on for about 15 minutes ,the water will start to get warm, because its shining right on the water when its on.
My betta starts to go to the bottom when the light is on too long, so that tells me that the water is getting to warm at the top. so i only would keep it on for about 2 or 3 minutes each time or less.
the color of the lightbulb doesnt matter for more information because i had a clear one then bought a red and now a blue and they all get the same temp. So have fun with your fish.
