is my beta fish dying
iv had my beta fish for a few months now and this morning i found it lying on the bottom of the bowl. i moved the bowl a little and sparky(the fish) started to dart around the bowl sporadically, and then after a few seconds it just settles on the bottom again. im afraid hes dying. i feed him omega one natural protein formula betta buffet flakes normally about once every one to two days. i feed him two to three flakes. i clean his bowl regularly (about once a week or more if the bowl starts getting dirty). please tell me if theres anything i can do about it.
Answers:All fish including bettas like room to swim around and a filter but most betta owners wont buy all that for a fish. What temp is the water? He could need a heater, they like temps around 78-80 degrees.
My girlfriend has 2 beta fish and they act like that all the time. It is when they are floating belly up in the bowl that u have to worry. Beta fish love to sleep at the bottom and even wedge themselves under rocks and plants.
Try feeding him more than 2 or 3 flakes every other day, that doesn't sound like enough food even for a small beta fish. I would feed him at least once a day.
um try cleaning the bowl if it is dirty and maybe feed it more\\\
i dotnt think it is dying
No, I don't think he's dying. Betta's lay at the botten, it plants, etc. So it's probably normal. Try to keep his water above 75 degrees and you might want to try feeding him a diet with more verity, like alternating flakes with bloodworms a couple of times a week and pellets maybe once a week. But it is good for them not to be fed everyday, actually, it hurts them more to be fed daily because they're pigs and eat anything, but have small stomachs. If he darts around and scratchs himself on rock or plants, look closely with a flashlight for little white spots becuase it could be a parasite or fungus, but any petstore has medicine for him. I like Quick Cure. It works fast and is easy to use. Betta's are very hardy and if it's minor like an external parasite or small fungus, it is easy to cure because they don't need filters and are kept by themselves so they don't need isolated. Check my site out, it's under construction, but the frogs and betta sections are finished.
i have a beta and he does the same thing he stays at the bottom of tank most of day til i feed him
He's probably just sleeping, Betta fish like to sleep at the bottom or in between rocks. Maybe feed Sparky a bit more, a good rule of thumb is that if all the food is gone in less than five minutes you aren't feeding him enough. Take out any waste food that he did not eat immediately.
