If it is a large snail, for your same, I hope its not dead. If its been on the tank floor for more than a day, in one spot, he probably is dead. If its attached to the tank wall, hes probably okay. I had a large snail, and then LOTS of little ones that somehow got in my tank. The big one was sitting in the same spot on the gravel for about a day. After I noticed this and the growing number of little snails in my tank, I decided to remove them all and release them into my already snail infested pond. When I netted the large snail and was about to put him into the bucket, all the flesh smooshed out of his shell. It was the worst smell that I have ever smelled. I got the majority of the small snails out and stripped the tank. It was so gross. Basically, be really careful about removing a dead snail it can be messy and nasty. Sorry, and good luck!

Ahhh - that makes more sense. Usually if a snail dies, the shell becomes hollow after a few days. I know when I had snails if they fell off the side they'd lay on the bottom for the entire night without moving.
So give it a day or two, if it does not move and starts to look like a hollow shell, it is probably a goner :(

it usually comes from the plants from the pet store. they usually start of as eggs from the leaves.
Just pick him up and put him in a corner. If he's still in the same place in 12 hours he's dead Jim. Mine in my betta tanks tend to be most active after I feed my betta.
It probely is alive, but it just likes hidding in it's shell. Try putting food in the tank. If It's alive, it may go and eat the food.
If you think it is dead, put it in another aquarium! It may put off a smell that is harmful to the other living creatures. If it doesn't craw out and look gross, or the little skin thing thats closes the shell when he is in it starts to fall off. Or if other creatures are eating it. It is dead. I have had it happen all three ways. Sometimes they will close up days at a time. I have found that to be when they are near death.
