ive bought 3 betas all have died within weeks of purchase my other fish are fine any suggestions

i use aquasafe in my water and i make sure the temperature is close to what it was before. i also let the water sit before i re-add the fish. my last beta died literally within an hour of the water change. i only had him for 2 weeks and he was fine until i changed the water today. the goldfish that he shares his tank with is fine. i love betas, but something is going on. my parents each have one and they have no problems!

It's never a good idea to mix a betta and a goldfish. They won't fight, but sometimes the goldfish is attracted to the colorful fins of the betta and he'll do a little nipping. This stress out the Betta along with the dirty water - Goldfish are very dirty! Betta's are pretty clean.

Also when changing the water it is never a good idea to change all the water. There is bacteria in the water that fish need to survive. It's good for them. It starts to grow when they are first introduced to the water or of you've used a chemical that helps the bacteria grow.

When you change all the water and replace it with complete new water - the bacteria is all gone. It's like thin air for fish & it stressed them out badly, Betta's are usually pretty hardy fish - but if your having problems I recommend only changing 1/2 the water every two weeks. It will look cloudy at first, but it will settle and look clear in an hour or so.

It's hard to think dirty water is good for fish - but it really is. They need the bacteria to live a healthy life.
