my Guppy lost some parts of her tail fin2007-11-24 23:39:20

When I come home and see that my guppy lost some part of her tail fin. What's wrong? Is it te water problem or something else?

Answers:

If there are other fish in the tank they may be biteing parts of her fins off. Fish will do that to eachother A) when they are starving they turn into canibals B) When they are mating to show dominance C) If the fish are in too small of a tank, they will try to kill eachother to make more room.

If your fish is by itself they you have either A) bacteria in the water that are attacking the fish, B) Your fish is sick with an infection and "desolving" its fins for fule to fight the infection, or C) Your fish has mental problems and is eating his own fins. Either way you should see a vet to find out what the problem is. Some bacteria of fish, anphibians (frogs and salamanders) or reptiles (snakes, turtles, lizards) is dangerous to humans and if the animal is sick you could get sick too.

it depends. i had a bunch b4. its probably not the water, but other guppies/fish might attack it. or.it could just be insane and be ripping its tail apart for fun?

yeah maybe there something wrong with the water, maybe you have to change the water, i think its better you put that fish in the other place and put some medicine for fish, because normally when fish lost some part of the tail fin they gonna die

it could be poor quality water or if you have more fish in the tank they are fighting

If there are other fish the tail might have been ripped though if the water was subpar it could be fin rot.

It is probably not the water. If u have more fish in the bowl with her they r probably attacking her. U might want 2 move her 2 a different bowl 4 a couple of days or so. Maybe her tail will start coming back.
