I doubt it. Probably it just likes it in there because it's darker and more hidden. Small fish have evolved to avoid places where they can get caught easily. Also, if there is any live food in his tank, it's possible that it hides in the plants and the fish is going in there partly in order to eat it.

No. If the plants are real, then he's probably getting nourishment from them. If they are fake then its probably just a place that feels safe or something, my betta spends a lot of his time around his plants too. Not bad.
This is normal. They're naturally predatory fish. They hide to wait for another fish to come by they can attack, even if there are no other fish in sight, they'll still wait for one to come by. They're ambush predators. Not very bright, but what do you expect? its a fish.

Bettas like to explore their plants and will even sleep in them when the lights go out. As long as he's not acting sluggish and always laying in the plants then he is probably just being a normal Betta fish.
the only reason you should be concerned is if you notice him swimming less and resting on the plants more, and/or possibly clamping his fins closed. otherwise he's a perfectly normal little betta who has staked out his territory.
