my betta seems unable to eat his food2007-11-24 23:38:13

he seems to try to eat a pellet (they are small betta pellets) and seems to miss- then they sink.

what is wrong with him? he seems healthy and swims around a lot at times. but its almost as if the pellets are too large- even tho' i have had him since novemeber and this behaviour has only just started. any ideas?

May be sick, check for any fungus spots in the tail or body.

Try Blood Worms- my betta eats them right up and they don't sink quickly.

Mine love the freeze dried brine shrimp. It's more expensive, but a bottle will last a long time. And they get so excited when they see me open the cabinet that has the fish food in it. :)

Your Betta may just be bored of his food, switch his food around giving him a different diet. You should only feed him every other day, they are slow moving fish, don't burn a lot of energy so they don't eat a lot of food. You will find out that you won't have to clean the bowl as much and the food won't be rotting on the bottom which can then cause fungus and fin rot.

I had the same thing going on with my betta. He just got bored of eating pellets all the time so I got some Betta flakes too with dried bloodworms in them! I like to switch it up for him so he never knows if he's getting a pellet or flakes.
