my molly fish died with horrible blisters all over her,2007-11-24 23:38:40

I treated her for fungus and bacterial infections and still died, how can I prevent this from happening to my other fish.. what caused the blisters. ( she also was verry swollen )..

Mollies have always been a little prone to bacterial infections and you probably did the right thing to traet her with an antibacterial. The problem is that many bacteria strains are extremely tough and do not respond to many over the counter treatments. Over the counter treatments are designed to normally only attack Gram negative bacterias and are fairly mild.

Antibiotics are the way to go for severe infections, but these are indiscriminate as to which bacteria they kill. Gram negative and gram positive will be affected, includuding those bacteria living in your filter, breaking down waste products. So you have to be careful.

the sweeling may have been caused by internal bacterias which are next to impossible to treat. these bacterias can affect and disable vital organs such as the kidneys. if these fail, fluids can build up within the fish and cause it to swell.

keep an eye on your other fish for sympyoms. hopefully this was an isolated case.

Maybe you could take a water sample to your local pet store and see if they will analyse it for fungus, parasites, or whatever and maybe they can tell you how to correct the problem.

Hi there sounds like a swimbladder infection this has happnd to my fish they started to float on top and couldnt stay down! aaaarrrhhh poor fishey's

So i used (Aqureium treatment no13 swimbladder treatment) I got it from my local garden centre HOPE THIS HELPS

Sounds like it may have been Dropsy. That is something that is not cureable unless caught very earlier.
