my oscar fish wont stop fighting2007-11-24 23:38:43

they were having signs of breeding the lip lock and picking small rocks up and moving them so i decided to put a peice off slate in their tank and they were happy cleaning the slate and the next day they were badly fighting none stop so i have put a divider up and still from this day they still try an kill each other, some info please will i have to sell one

Answers:

Oscars are very territorial fish and will fight over 'their' part of the tank or 'their' rocks, 'their' slate or 'their' hiding places.

Try taking everything out of the tank and completely rearranging it, maybe adding some different rocks or taking some away. This will need doing fairly regularly to stop them from getting territorial again once they're used to the new arrangement, perhaps every time you do a water change?

oscars fight thts what they do, there very agresive fish, they kill and eat other fish and thier own kind even thier babies and eggs, put it in another tank, or one will die

Perhaps they went to pre-marital counseling and decided they were a bad match and are just wishing one would be moved from the neighborhood. sorry. here is my real answer..

Oscar fish are mean. Just mean. I know this is hard for Oscar owners to admit or believe.but once they get a "taste" for death they try to KILL everything.. including each other.
