i have green barb, tiger and silver barb..One tiger barb is nipping their fins

It is hard to keep any kind of barb from fin nipping, one word of advice that any professional should have told you when you purchased the different varity of fish is to keep them in schools. If you have one tiger barb then you should purchase two or three more to create a school of that species. So on and so forth for the other breeds of barbs. They will do much better in a school of their own breed.

i'm not sure how many you have, but the more you have, the more dosile they become. If you only have 3 or 4, try adding another 4 or 5. They will swim in schools and become calmer.
This is unfortunately a trait of barbs. Sometimes they will just chase each other, sometimes they will nip fins. Do you know if you have two males and a female? If so, adding more females could solve the problem. Or get a bigger tank so they have more area to establish territory
Yes, it is a serious matter. You wouldn't want to get anything of yours nipped off, would you?
tiger barbs are naturally an aggressive fish so its not a good idea to put them in a communal tank with less aggressive fish, especially long finned fish, just make sure your tank is heavily planted and you are feeding them enough.
