After that, go to the pet store and pick your fish, be sure not to put fishes with different temperament or nature, i mean there are types and categories for fish. "peaceful" "semi-agressive" "agressive" fish. if you want a community fish tank . try putting the peaceful once on your tank. Semi agressive like "tigerbarbs" are not suitable to live w/ peaceful fishes cuz they will tend to nip on your other fish and they might die. Agressive fish like "OSCARS" and "CICHLIDS" are very carnivorous they will eat all the fish that are smaller than them. i had an oscare before it ate nearly 25 fish on my tank. i was a noobie that day , didn't know anything about setting up a good community tank. So if you look at the labels of the fish don't get any types of OSCARS OR CICHLIDS, if you're putting smaller fish on your tank. just a reminder oscars love eating live fish so if your trying to take care of an oscar just put oscars and cichlids on your tank don't put any peaceful fish or semi agressive fish. same goes with the peaceful.. hope this helps

Since we don't know what you are putting in the tank. Here is what I would do to start the tank.

Once it is filled with water, heater and your carbon filter is running:

1. Put in water conditioner that removes chlorine.

2. Put in water conditioner that adds biological the little micro organisms that you want in your tank. Go to your local pet store I forget the name of it but they will know.
