get a suction hose from Wal-mart/pet department. It cleans & removes water at the same time.

Use a length of clean hose to form a syphon. All you do is place one end of the hose in the tank and then suck on the other end. once the water in the hose is past the top of the aquarium, remove the hose from your mouth and point that end towards a bucket. Water will now dran from the tank. make sure then end of the hose outside of the aquarium is below the end inside the aquarium and gravity will just do it's thing. Inexpensive syphon sets can be bought from any aquatic store. the should cost less than 拢10 ($10)

Scoop out the bulk of the water with a clean plastic container, refill with clean water that has been treated for your fish, replace the filter and ouila! Clean water!

I wouldn't do a complete water change ever. The best thing to do is take out 25% of the total volume with a syphon. They are not very expensive and they clean debris out of the gravel as you go. I would recommend a small one no matter what the size of your tank is. The water will flow a bit slower but you can get it into nooks and crannies without disturbing too much. If you must do a complete water change, and your tank is near a window, run the hose out the window and let it flow! That's how I emptied my Oscar tank when I moved. Whatever way you decide on, make sure you keep the Bounty roll close by!

Wal mart sells gravel siphons for very little money. They are worth the investment as they will remove larger pieces of fish waste that your filter has missed keeping the water in better condition for long-lived fish. You need only remove about 25% of the water when cleaning the tank about every other week.
