Most air pumps specify on the box what size aquarium they are good for. I think the whisper ones actually come in "tank sizes", ie., Whisper 10, Whisper 20, etc.
Whatever the smaller ones are.
Not much demand on it unless you want a huge bubble curtain or something.
The recommended size is always listed on the box of the pumps. You would need one that is good for tank 10-20 gallons with air tubing, regulator valve (to control the amount of bubbles), and an air stone/air tube or something of that nature.

An air pump, or compressor, has to provide a constant, oil-free supply of fresh air to the water. It is wise to plan ahead and select a pump that is powerful enough for expansion needs, usually because fish tanks are addictive. You may also need extra air supply if you choose to operate brine shrimp hatcheries in order to cultivate them as food for your fish. It is good practice to locate the compressor on the floor with enough clear space around it so air can circulate adequately and cool the unit. Sometimes people wrap insulation around the pump in an attempt to cut down the noise some units make. This is not a good idea since this often results in a burned out motor. Good luck and keep the air flowing. Once you figure out what all you want to supply with your pump, go to your local pet store and ask for help choosing the right size for you and your fishes needs
