I started with goldfish- there ugly and very dirty.
Get freshwater fish- I There is a broader variety but require a heater. Partial water change every 2 weeks, and skim the bottom once every 1 1/2 month. I have a 10 gallon tank. 2 tetras, one clown, 2 algae eaters a froggie and some other wired creature
I tried salt water and it takes a lot of adjustment, and is another world!! I would recommend starting with freshwater, then going to salt water if you interested.
male bettas. But only get one for your aquarium. They have a beautiful flare to their fins, and come in awesome colors. Plus, they don't need to be fed very much!

Virtual ones.
betta
It depends what type of an aquarium you want. There is room temperature water, water heated by a thermostat, or salt water. If you want the easy way out and not a lot of maintenance, I would go for the room temperature water aquarium. There are certain types of goldfish, lionhead, swordfish, guppies, that are ideal for that temperature and do very well.
Guppies! :))
A siamese fighting fish a.k.a the Betta, or a goldfish. either one is a good fish for a beginner just keep the Betta in water that is between75 degrees F and 78 degrees F . and don't put 2 male bettas in the same tank, they will kill each other.
Fighting fish or parrot fish as it doesn't need oxygen!
I have a 70 gallon tank & we just love our fish.
