Answers:

Guppies do especially well with a small amount of aquarium salt. It is not harmful for mollies or platies.

No, you cannot put a betta with tiger barbs. Tiger barbs are very agressive fish as are bettas.

Male bettas should never be kept in the same tank (duh), and as a general rule, bettas prefer to be by themselves. They're very solitary and territorial. However, many people have successfully integrated a single male betta in a community tank with SHORT-FINNED, DOCILE, TROPICAL (that thrive in 77-80 degrees) fish. I do not recommend keeping a betta with male guppies with large finnage (the bright ones with big tails), as the betta may mistake them for other bettas.

They don't need the salt to survive, but they benefit from it. Look for Aquarium Pharmaceutical's "Aquarium Salt" in a milk carton. Salt replenishes electrolytes (Much like Gatorade for us) in those fish that can have it and is a natural agent in helping keep them healthy.

And yes, you can keep them with the mollies, swordtails and platties. All these fish are part of the live bearing family and tend to have the same temperments and "dirtiness" about them.

-"dirtiness"- Refers to the higher then a Tetra for instance, level of waste they create.
