whats wrong with my fish2007-11-24 23:42:46

i switched my goldfish from a 2 gal. to a 10 gal and now theres this fish that swimming against the wall like when someones catching a marlin but in the water.

Shock. sounds like you didnt acclimate him to the water in the 10 gallon right. When you change fish fron tank to tank always be sure to let him get used to the water slowly before you put him in. Next time put him in a freezer bag with his old water in it and let him float on top so the temperatures can slowly reach same degree to reduce shock. If its not too late put a pinch of table salt to help him breathe easier (real salt not imitation). He might still pull through. Make sure you didnt put in too much water conditioner which can also cause that.

Make sure you have good water in there. Get that stuff that relaxes fish. You can get it at any pet store. My fish used to swim backwards into the walls like they were hiding.

He's probably in shock due to the differences between water qualities of the 2 tanks. You did "cycle" the 10 g, didn't you? And properly acclimate him to the 10g? He may die

How do you know that your fish is behaving strangely.You are a beginner and need lot of experience before you decide anything about your fish. Your fish is now happy he wouldn't tell you this by writing or saying but by swimming freely in the tank and letting her fins expand.Let her be there and she will be alright and also add one or two more goldfish to the tank.

The fish is in a new environment and he needs time to adjust. Make sure the water is the right temp for the goldfish. Goldfish are cold water fish so make sure the rest of the fish in the tank are too. Check the water quality of you tank. Some fish store do free water testing. They will also help you is the water needs to be adjusted. Are there any plants in the tank? Some fish like to have a place to hide. I hope that this helped.
