why 5"male discus fish keeps hitting the5" female in an empty 35 gallon do I need lites2007-11-24 23:43:45

what color of light do I need and for how long should I keep it on? starting from the morning I just have one simple aglorex light not so bowerfull .

also can I feed my discus frozen brine shrimp and micess sold for marine or salt water fish ? if my discus female is not round kind of skiny from down also has black eye where dose this black eye come from? not big or ingered or desise . I also notice its clear yellow when sleeping also its been eating soo good since I bought it 3 days ago from a frined last question , where can I get methlen blue and when should I use it ?.

Are you sure they are male and female? Have they spawned for you or your friend? They may be two males.

Most of the time, with only two same species cichlids in a tank, one will become dominant and intimidate the other to the point where it stops eating and eventually dies.

Most cichlids need to be kept in groups of 5-6 to keep the agression level manageable. That way one is not picked on all the time, it is spread among all the fish.

Yes you can feed them that marine food.

Light is not an issue with discus. I have kept them successfully with just one incandescent bulb that was clear white.

I don't understand what you mean by "skiny from down."

Many cichlids have black eyes, it is nothing to worry about.

Methylene blue is used to keep eggs from fungusing during the incubation period. It is available at most any pet store.

Fairly good light 4 8 hours a day. feed em frozen food if they eat it heartily. not too much tho. Fish do go pail when asleep. DO NOT USE methlane blue! its outdated rubbish, use an interpet treatment for whatever they are suffering from,

To answer the bit about why the male keeps hitting the female, it is probably not about it not being able to see, its probably just a bit of aggression, unless I have misinterpreted your question.

I myself had no problems come about from using Methelene Blue, and it is available at pet stores, however if you go to someplace like Petsmart or Petco, you could ask oneof the fish specialists for more specific and probably accurate answers on how to take care of them.
