why are all of my fancy guppies turning black and dying2007-11-24 23:43:46

this is happening mostly to the males their pretty tails are all turning black .

It's been a while since I have had fish, but it sounds like you have some kind of disease in the tank. If I remember right, it's what they call a rot. Your local pet store should have medicines for you to add to the water to fix it, but the more info you can give them (maybe even take in one of the afflicted fish in a clear container for them to look at), the easier it will be for them to know what to give you. When goldfish turn black it is from a fungus which you can get medication for. Guppies are probably not that much different.

That's weird, are the tails getting ragged, torn, or disappearing? If so, I'd say it's fin rot. Depending on your tank size, assuming it's a 10 gallon, you should be doing water changes every week of about 20%. If it's smaller(which it hopefully isn't), a little more frequently then that. Also try picking up some MelaFix from the pet store or sometimes walmart has it.
