Answers:How old is your aquarium? You need a natural balance of bacteria in the aquarium which takes time to grow. These bacteria change the ammonia from your fish waste into harmless nitrogen/gas. If you don't have enough bacteria, the fish suffocate or get ick from stress and die.
Did you do the normal 10% water change every week like you're supposed to? When you did do the water change every week was the temperature correct? Did you put in any anti chlorine in it?
Remember, the bigger the aquarium, the easier it is to take care of
Did you check the levels of the various minerals in your water? At the pet store they sell a couple of varieties for testing your water. It sound like the snails contaminated the water or upset the balance of some of the levels.
Sounds like the "Mystery" of the snails is that it messes up your tank and kills the fish.
it happens..lot of things can course this .most common is they catch some sort of disease and all die
You have too many fish (and snails) for such a little tank.
The general rule is one inch of fish per gallon of water. So you can only have 5 inches of fish. Tetras, depending on which ones you got, are around 2-3 inches each meaning you can only have 2 in that size tank. Three at the most, and only if you have a really good filter and don't want snails. Snails are included in the number of inhabitants of a tank.
