why do guppies/neon tetris stay up near the filter and WHY DID MY GHOST SHRIMP JUMP OUT while2007-11-24 23:43:12

I was cleaning the rocks in the tank, I put him in a bowl with the guppies and he jumped out twice and I saved him. Alot THESE fish have been dying lately.Iv'e had it for 2 weeks and been taking care of it properly, got them from petco and wal-mart. Bought a test kit and ammonia deoxitizer & conditioner. Also rinsed the filter and put and alergy tablet in. My pleco and neon died today also..=( WHATS WRONG HERE! ? I have 4 guppies and a corydora bottom feeder.

If you are cleaning your tank, don't use water directly from the tap. Take the water and store them in containers for at least 3 days, or treat the water with tap water treater. I do both.

umm not sure maybe it was the alregy tablet,,,no just kidding,,was your tank set up for at least 24 hrs,what size is the tank,how many fish is in the tank,,all these things could be contributing factors in the demise of your fish,

What about your nitrite levels? Have you checked that? If it is a 2 weeks aquarium you shouldnt put any fish in the first place.have you added filter bacteria culture to break down the nitrate? It seems like the "new aquarim syndrome" to me.when you buy an aquarium you need to wait for a month until the water matures, and then add fish. The first fish you put, must be hardy fish such as guppies and neon tetras. Also you mustnt overstock it, put some in the beginning and add more slowly. Taking them out of the aquarium also stresses them, use a gravel cleaner and carry out a partial water change each time, like 25-30%.good luck.
