Depends on how and what you fed it, how the tank was set up, the water parameters, the place you will be letting it go, and your local laws (they will say not too). Once you answer all of these questions, the answer will still be.just keep it or give it to someone that will continue to care for it.

probably not, he would be used to getting fed and in a little tank, not knowing that there are dangers, within the first week he would die from starvation or he would get eatin by another fish. Keep him don't let him go to the wild.
Generally, any animal been raised in captivity forms a dependence on its owner, and will always struggle, let alone survive, if released into the wild - UNLESS it's rearing has been developmental for the animal (ie. the original intention and purpose of the rearing was to teach it independence and prepare it for wildlife, like in rehabilitation facilities).
It would be unfair and likely unlucky for the fish if it were to be released into the wild after being kept as a pet.
The thought that "it is an animal which belongs in the wild, and he'd be happier there" may cross your mind, but it would be like letting a dependant toddler out into the city alone.
If you can no longer keep him, then perhaps seek out someone to take him over as a pet.
