How Much my mare is worth part 22007-11-24 21:16:03

ok im gonna give more detail about my 3 yr old standardbred mare. We think when she was a baby she either casted againest a stall or her mom stepped on her it doesn't affect her at all she w/t/c fine. We aren;t sure if its her back or leg or w/e so we are having a chiropractor out next monday to give us a better diagnois of whats wrong with her. if she turns out ridable i was gonna put her between $1-2 thousand shes not registered but can be but it would cost $400 dollars to register her. She is breedable. thanks Kim

These days with the shortage of hay in many places in the country, the prices of everything going up, and the overabundance of poorly bred and unsound horses...she isn't worth much. She isn't registered, isn't saddle broke, has problems...you'd have to give the mare away. Right now, most people can buy a pretty rideable horse for a $1000, since there isn't much of a market in horses. Heck, I have a bunch of horses I got sound off the racetrack and never paid a dime for any of them. Also, what makes her breedable? A uterus? If she isn't registered, has problems already at 3, has no performance record, and probably doesn't have outstanding conformation...then she is NOT breeding material. There are too many unwanted horses out there already to go breeding a mare that shouldn't be bred. Go to the fugly horse of the day blog and see what horses like that produce...

If you don't want her and she is sound for light riding, find someone to free lease her to that will provide her with a good home, but you should retain ownership to make sure she doesn't get passed around and end up somewhere unsuitable.

By the looks of this i wouldnt pay nearly 1000 dollars for her. I would pay 400 bucks
since she isn't trained or registered i'd at least saddle-break and register her. i might pay $1000 bucks for her just because she's breedable. saddle-break and register her so that you can get a fair price.
I would say more of $1,000. She seems to be a 'fixer-upper' and since she isn't registered that's another price reduction. Since she is injured, the price may go down way more. It is kind of hard to tell what to price her at since we can't see her and examine her temperment. I would say that $600 would be a better price.
