How do you get your parents to get you a horse2007-11-24 21:15:58

I have been riding for about 4-5 years, and every year I ask for a horse, my mom says no, when you grow up you can have one. I take care of all the horses at the barn, like feeding, riding, batheing, and spoiling them. I found horses I really liked, but I don't think they are right for me. I am more of a experienced rider. I found a perfect horse I want, but its 12,000. It is BEAUTIFUL! Palomino w/ pure white mane and tail. anyways.. my mom always thinks of herself first, we are putting over 20k dollars into the basement, and not 10k on a horse! She knows I can take care of him/her by myself, but I dont know whats her problem. I love to go to horse shows, but its no fun w/o having My horse, MY own horse. Please some advice. (( would this be a good idea?= Bring the horse I want to my barn for a week or so, and take care of him, and show her that I can? )) Thanks soooo much everyone!!

Answers:

A 20K basement is something the whole family can enjoy and add value to your home.

A 12K horse will only add to your quality of life, it will cost to feed him, and of course there is always vet bills. Then you might decide you don't have time for your horse, because of school and other activities and a horse needs attention every day, rain or shine. You might talk to the owner of the horse about lowering the price, or work out some sort of payment plan, you could get a part time job. Then work a deal with your Mom that you will pay half, if she will help pay the other half by not needing to buy you any birthday presents for awhile. This is a really expensive item and you need to look at all the possibilities.

They are expensive to buy, and expensive, VERY expensive, for about 16 years. I wouldn't let my kid get a horse NO WAY, so give it up, seriously. I asked my dad, said he'd get me one when I was 12, and guess what? NO HORSE.
my first horse cost 2000 bucks. and now jumps does endurance dressage and 4-H. some parents can't afford it. and really the way convinced my mom was by getting her to like horses to. You also have to take into consideration board fees, vets fees, anual farrier visits, and if you want to show thats another fee to consider. e-mail me at ariel_kent@yahoo.com so we can talk more on this. sine iwould love to help.
