How long did it take you to get your first horse2007-11-24 21:15:40

I just want to hear from people who couldn't have horses as kids because of whatever reasons. I am 15 and my parents dont have that kind of money. I've loved horses for ever and I want one as an adult but would that be possible. I mean would I have time for him with jobs, responsibilities, ect.

Well anywho, I want to hear some good stories and inspiration about the above.

I have been riding since I was 4. My family owned a farm but its a breeding farm so horses go in and out. I could never have a horse of my very own to ride. I rode this old pony my family owned but he wasnt a nice pony. He would try to bite and kick me. I just didnt connect with him. I mean I loved him as he was the closest thing I had to a horse. But I never got to spend time with him as I am the oldest of 5 brothers and sisters who shared the pony. One day the pony passed away. Me and all my family were heart broken. We didnt have the money to buy a new horse or pony. For a year I only would get to ride mares that werent pregnant. But that wasnt a lot because mostly either they just had a foal or they were going to soon. I saved up all my money for a horse. One day my friend invited me to her riding lesson. I saw this beautifal Appaloosa gelding in his stall and he looked sad. He came up to me and said hi. The barn manager walked down and looked at me amazed. He told me I was the first person in a month the horse actually looked happy to be with. Apparently the horse was miserable at the place. So he let me ride him. The horse was fantastic. Another rider got on him and he started sidewalking and backing up. The manager gave him to me! He said the horse would be happier with me. This was when I was 13. He is still with me now. I love my appaloosa. The manager visits us.

I was 35 before I finally got my own. He was 15 and a rescue horse. He is now 37. No longer ridable(hasn't been for years) but he still likes his dinner and enjoys life and has a home.
