also you can get a foaling predictor kit to predict exactly when the foal should come. you can get the kit from www.valleyvet.com and it requires One Tsp. sample of milk from the mare. the sample is added to the test solution and test strips are compared to a chart. this is very accurate and easy to do. you cant be completely certain exactly when the mare will foal. yes you can guesstimate with the 11 month time period, but i know of mares that have foaled healthy foals more than 2 weeks early and more than a month late.

The normal gestation period for a mare is 11 months or 340 days, give or take 3 weeks if the mare is a maiden and has never had a foal before. To calculate her due date, take a year from the date of her last cover ( breeding) and count back one month, with a 3 week allowance in case the mare is a maiden. Remember that fillies take less time to mature than colts, so a mare who has a filly will likely foal earlier than one who has a colt. Hope this helps.
