How many miniature horses could I keep in a pasture thats almost - but not quite - one acre2007-11-24 21:15:45

I asked a similar question a few days ago about full-sized horses, but I guess we just don't have enough room. So what about two minis?

Answers:

I have 3 mini's on 1.5 acres and they cant' keep up w/ the grass. But you have to be very careful with these little guys. Don't feed to much or they will founder. I have to let them graze so many hours of the day because our grass is so rich. To much of it can really be harmful.

That should be ok, but you have to make sure the field is immaculate, no poos lying around for too long. you will also need to think about alternative feed for winter.

You can go more if you want. I personally think that mini horses are awesome. Some breeders accrual use them as seeing guide horses. They have a better field of vision, cost less to maintain, train easily and can actually live inside a HOUSEHOLD. Don' t worry they don't need much space.

2 is fine. No more than though! They will definately need hay though & be sure to keep the pasture clean.

Hi I breed shetland and miniature ponies and we are only on 6 acres here and we have 9 ponies at present sometimes we have had more but its a struggle for feed. 2 minis would be more than enough for your acre other wise you will be buying a lot more feed than you want. good luck

more is not alway better, watermellon...sometimes less is more.

one acre won't keep a goat, let alone two minis.

Rule of thumb is one full size horse per green acre. So if I had minis, I wouldn't go higher than 2.
