There are something like 250 known breeds of horses in the world. However, if you are talking about actual horseraces, then those number in the hundreds of thousands worldwide- racing exists as a sport in countries across the globe. ( Just in the US alone, there are over 100,000 horseraces contested in any given year.) Racing exists in almost all states in the US, with race meetings happening in every season of the year.
