the drought is so bad! i paid about the same last week, have a look in saturdays courier mail in the wkend shopper, have brought from sellers in there before and it has been a bit cheaper than produce store, quality was the same but had to travel to get it last time so not very convenient.

whoa! Don't live in australia. but 25.50 is a large amount!! Here in oklahoma we pay anywhere from 3.00 to 8.00 depending on the type.

last September We paid $110 per round bale of sweet Sudan hay with a light weight of 900 pounds. The drought devastated our hay crops.

I'm living in Queensland, and the prices are around that for a bale of hay. It's because of the drought. Remember, though, owning horses is expensive!

That's pretty scary. At last we have our own land, and I can get 'free' hay for my horse. My husband does point out though that if I paid him for his time, rent of tractor, mower and baler, diesel, fertilizer, mortgage on the land, cost of not growing a crop, or grazing the cows, it's not actually free.
