How much does it cost to get a horse from a shelter? I dont think they are free. I think there is a small fee for any medical care they have had while at the shelter. So about how much do the shelters charge for a horse?

Usually not very much. The problem is that it costs serious money every year for maintaining any horse. Usually $1800-$2400 annually for the next 20-30 years.

All shelters have different fees. Some shelters do have free horses but they are usually not rideable. You need to contact or search for horse shelters in your area or however far your willing to drive and ask them.

my horse was a rescue... i paid $475 for her because she was pregnant... most of the other horses there were about $200-$300.

some shelters charge as little as $100, others over $1,000, depending on the shelter, and on the horse. also mustang shelters here in texas charge about $150.

There is a good shelter I know of in Texas called Blue Bonnet. Here is their website that will give you an idea of how things work. The prices there depend on what type of horse you are looking for. If you want something that is in good shape and rideable, it will be a little more costly than one you just want more as a pet. There are also some guidelines about how they go about approving you to get an animal. Like how much land you must have, approved fencing and shelter arrangments, etc.

well from what I am gathering most horses cost between $100,000 and $200,000. I'm not sure you may have to go ask a person who say works at an Animal Shelter.
