How much dopes it cost to feed a horse per month
I may be getting a horse that my gf will train. It will be a big horse, not a pony or anything like that. It will be trained for English riding and jumping
I was wondering how much it costs to feed it, plus normal vet expenses and other mandotory things that i would need to do.
Answers:Ferrier Bill:
Shoes: replaced every 4-6 weeks
ranges from 20-50$
No Shoes: 4-6 week trim/checkup
about 20-30$
Vet Bill:
If you schedual a checkup it should be about 40$ if the vet has to make a house call
Spring Vaccinations should be about 120$
Coggins tests are usually around 75$
Flu shot is about 20$
Feed:
Grain: should be 100$/month
Hay: should be about 100$/month as well
Brushes:
soft brush, hard brush, hoof pick, curry comb, face brush should total to about 30$.
Blankets:
Good winter blanket= about 200$
Rain sheet= about 80$
water proofing spray= 15$
you do the math =) its expensive.
I'd recommend you not be tight on cash when buying a pet...horses in particular! If anything goes wrong, you'll be amazed at the vet bills. Look into stables that house and feed the horse for a fee. You actually save a lot of money that way!
I don't know if they accept dope as payment- perhaps you misspelled
About $50. per month for food $60. for shoes $30. for a trim, thats about every 6wks. Vet care is the same as a Human Dr.! Get insurance.
It mostly depends on where you live. Where I am, hay is about 10 dollars a bale and I feed 7lbs twice a day. A sack of good grain is 8 dollars a sack and I feed 3lbs twice a day. Ferrier cost for me is 50 dollars every 4 to 6 weeks. Vet bills varry on what you have done. They need coggins test, shots, teeth care and so on. If they get hurt expect to spend lots of money. Anything can happen with a horse. If you choose to board your horse do find one that will feed for you but find out what they feed and how often. You don't want your horse to get skinny and sick. They are very hard to get back healthy. Then you need all your tack, brushes, halters, leads, buckets and such.
Hope this helps. I love owning horses, it is a great joy no matter the cost.
around 300.00 a month
