How much should I sell My Horse2007-11-24 21:16:04

Daisy is a standardbred 3 yr old not ridable but breedable has great racing lines but she isnt registered. Has a problem with nipping at you and well she chases me idk why. She has reared at my dad b4 and been a pain to get into her stall b4 too.Im 15 and have handled horse b4 but shes the most diffcult. i have another horse but hes getting old and i wanna do barrels. How much should i sell daisy in order to get my barrel horse. Thanks kimberly

I would say under a 1000 dollars, or free. It sounds harsh, but she is really only going to be sutible as a pasture companion horse.

You will have a really hard time selling her as a broodmare if she isn't registered, because her foals will not be registerable either. Also someone won't want to breed a horse that they dont know what its genetics are like, being registered gives the breeder a way to look at a horses bloodlines and figure out what they are likely to produce, and if they have any genetic disorders that they should be aware of. Breeding an unregistered horse is irrisponsible under most circumstances.

If you want her to get the best home possible, give her away as a companion horse, and make sure you talk to whoever you give her to alot to make sure they are genuine in their intentions with her. If you want to make a quick buck off of her, send her to an auction.

**I'm writing this assuming she has some physical issue that makes her unable to be ridden. If she is just unbroke, then it's a whole different story...

It depends. If someone is a first time customer, than give it to them real cheap... maybe even free. Try pitching it to them while you are taking a shot yourself. Say something like, "Hey, you wanna get real high? Try some of this. Then, when they start fiending for more, raise the price through the roof, making up some lame excuse like, "I had to pop three people for this. I wish it were easier, and I could give it to you cheap."
