I'm only nine years old and love horses.

I'm sure that some places who are in need of volunteers--like rescues-- would LOVE to have you come and help out-- they are usually in over their head a lot and are swamped. I'm sure you could do some work like muck stalls and maybe groom =) Generally you have to be 13+ to actually work at a stable (like stables that offer lessons and have boarders there) to recieve a free lesson in exchange. Legally, in most states you have to be 16+ to recieve monetary pay.

At your age, you could help keep the barn clean by sweeping, and you could help clean tack, and you could help groom some of the ponies and smaller horses. You could also be a go -fer if someone needed something.

You would need permission from your mother and the stable owner to do that.

hi, im 18 and i used to volunteer at a stable it was amazing! there were about 6 other girls who used to volunteer the youngest being about 7 years old. If you are responsible enough i dont think it would be a problem at all if you started volunteering now, its a GREAT time you'll love it

If your parents are willing to drive you to and from the barn on a regular basis, and you are a responsible hard worker, then there isn't any reason why you couldn't start working at a stable doing things like cleaning stalls in a couple years. If your parents are willing to work with you then you could volenteer at a horse rescue, usually with younger kids they don't let you alone with the horses, but with your parents there you may be able to help groom horses, and do other things like that.
