If my horse holds his tail too high when Im showing, what should I do I already put in a fake tail T

Some people break thier horses tails, but I think thats mean! Should I use some kind of nerve detiner or something so that he can still swat flys (the purpose of a tail!) I show about every weekend and I think that it might help the score of my performance if he kept his tail down to help the overall picture?!!.. Please Help!

You didn't mention the breed, but I am assuming you are showing stock breeds. As an aside, in dogs, this is called a "gay" tail, or happy tail

Your false tail may actually be the culprit. Anytime you add weight to your horse's real tail, it strengthens the muscles and makes them have a tendency to hold it higher. One of the strategies that the "natural" Walking Horse breeders (the ones who do not break their horses' tails and set them) use is to tie a large rock in the tail and wrap it so that the horse gets used to the weight... when the rock it removed, voila! High tail set with no gingering or breaking.

You can have the tail temporarily nerve blocked (this is sort of dangerous) but believe it or not, most judges would rathered see a natural tail in all its quirkiness than a "dead" tail just hanging limp. And actually, if you are showing at breed-sanctioned shows like AQHA or APHA, and you get caught, you could be disciplined up to a year later and all the ribbons/awards you have won will be taken from you, and your horse can be banned from breed sanctioned competition for life if the panel does not find in your favor.
